…and unlike most, or maybe like most, I didn’t figure out what “I wanted to be when I grow up” until halfway through my college career. I knew that I couldn’t be a professional soccer player like I had dreamed of my whole adolescent life, so I went in search of something that excited me like soccer once had. In my third year of college, I took my required ‘Marketing 101’ class like every other undergrad at my school. It was then, while learning how the Blair Witch Project became a national phenomenon, that everything started to click. All of a sudden, marketing wasn’t a business practice I had to learn; it was simply a business strategy that needed to be dissected with common sense. Once the proverbial light bulb went off, off I went running with creativity and confidence.
Since that day, I’ve continued to be motivated with the fascinating results that come from a well-thought out branding and creative strategy. But, it’s the non-traditional and guerrilla marketing strategies, used perfectly by my favorites Wexley School for Girls and The Barbarian Group, that really gets me excited about the possibilities in the industry.
Today, I currently oversee the inbound marketing & lead generation program as Marketing Director at DigitalSherpa, an industry leader in online content creation that fuels the marketing efforts of over 4,000 businesses. I’m also the co-founder of the Detroit-based clothing company, SMPLFD. In a little over 5 years, we’ve gone from selling t-shirts out of our backpacks to establishing our own office space and retail showroom set to open in the Spring of 2015.
Along side these roles, I also moonlight as freelance digital marketing consultant that specializes in creating inbound marketing (content marketing, social media marketing, e-commerce, and more) strategies that drive tangible results for start-ups, entrepreneurs, and SMBs.
